Rooted in Community: Felicitation of Anoop Kumar by Ramai Foundation

Introduction

On the occasion of the 88th death anniversary of Mata Ramai Ambedkar, the Ramai Foundation, Wardha, organised a commemorative public programme bringing together scholars, social activists, educators, and community members — a gathering to reflect on her life, her sacrifices, and the path she helped make possible for generations after her.

The event also became a moment of personal recognition for Mr. Anoop Kumar, Founder Director of Nalanda Academy, who was felicitated by community elders for his contribution to education and his long-standing work with students from rural and disadvantaged backgrounds.

Education and Social Justice

The programme featured Dr. Sukhdeo Thorat, noted educationist and former Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), as the chief speaker. He spoke about the transformative role of education in achieving social justice, stressing the need to create meaningful opportunities for students from marginalised communities and to strengthen institutions that work toward their empowerment.

Education remains the most powerful path toward equality and dignity.

— Dr. Sukhdeo Thorat

A Special Moment for Nalanda Academy

The event was presided over by senior social activist Baba Hatekar from Dhule, Maharashtra, whose lifelong commitment to Ambedkarite movements has inspired generations of youth and social workers. In his remarks, he called on young people to carry forward the struggle for equality and dignity through education and sustained collective action.

The felicitation of Anoop Kumar by the Ramai Foundation was received as more than an individual honour. It reflected the journey of an institution built from the ground up — one that has worked, year after year, to open doors of quality higher education for students who face social and economic barriers at every turn.

Carrying Forward the Legacy

The programme served as both a tribute and a call to action — a reminder that the work Mata Ramai Ambedkar gave her life to remains unfinished, and that each generation must take it forward through education, awareness, and social commitment.

Nalanda Academy remains steadfast in this effort, building spaces where first-generation learners can find not just academic preparation, but confidence, dignity, and a sense of belonging.
