Reshma Ansari, a Nalanda Academy alumna from Kuhi in Nagpur district, has cleared the Maharashtra Public Services Commission (MPSC) examination and joined the Maharashtra State Civil Services.
We are glad to share her journey.
Early Years
Reshma Ansari grew up in Kuhi, a small town in Nagpur district. Like many students from rural Maharashtra, her path to higher education was not straightforward. Resources were limited, and the distance between where she came from and the institutions she would later enter was significant — not just in kilometres, but in every social and economic sense.
She did not let that stop her.
Building the Foundation
After school, Reshma pursued her undergraduate studies at the Institute of Science, Nagpur — one of the city’s established science institutions. From there, she was selected to the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, where she completed her postgraduate studies.
It was during this period that she came to Nalanda Academy, preparing for the civil services examination and reflecting on what she wanted to do with her education.
The MPSC is among the most competitive examinations in Maharashtra. Thousands of candidates appear each year; very few make it through. Reshma did.
A Step into Public Service
She has now joined the Maharashtra State Civil Services as an officer — a posting that puts her in a position to work directly on the issues that shaped her own upbringing: access, administration, and the gap between policy and ground reality.
Reshma came to Nalanda looking for direction. She left with clarity.
A Note from Nalanda
Today, as she begins her service in Maharashtra’s civil administration, we feel a quiet and genuine pride — not just in the examination she cleared, but in the journey that brought her here.
From Kuhi to Nagpur. From Nagpur to Mumbai. And now, into public service.
We wish her the very best for the work ahead.
